Help needed...brakes
« on: 20 May 2013, 17:42:02 »

Hi all...
On the M4 on route to pikey van, had to hit the brakes at 70 mph, and car swerved towards the middle lane from the outside lane. Filled my pants.
It pulls left at slower speeds too. I assume this is a callipher sticking problem.
Is there anyone in the Wareham/Poole/Weymouth or surrounding area who has the knowhow to sort this. I assume it wants greasing or something. We are at Wareham till sunday.
If not, I will have to nurse it through the week then put it in son in laws garage next week. :y
It has had new discs and pads fitted about 2 months ago.
TIA

Tony

Yep likely calipers and/or caliper slide pins sticking :y - assuming tyre pressures ok.

Short term solution - wear your brown trousers with bike clips  :)

I had this with a previous Omega.  It was a failed Steering Idler.  :y

Could be failed bush or steering component.

sounds more like bushes or idler.  Just take it easy until you get to your garage :y

Ahhhh.  Who fitted them and HOW did they fit them?  There is a bible to follow when fitting Wishbones, and they must be good 'uns!  If the bolts are torqued without the vehicle holding it's own weight, there will be problems. (as a for example).

I wouldn't have expected problems in that area, Broomies Mate, as they  were fitted at the son in laws garage. They all know about me wanting pukker parts and that's what I normally get.
I have heard him talk about the car being on the ground to torque it up. But who knows...always a first.
I shall have to keep the speed down for a week...its no so bad then.
One point...I think it only puls on the initial press, then seems to brake normally, till next time. :y

I'm watching this thread, hoping it's a cheap and easy fix.  :y

Given its recently had wishbones, thats where I would look first. The symptoms match, and its more common than a seized (off) caliper, esp as the car has been in regular use.

Have to agree with TB = Wishbones changed recently by someone not used to miggys and BINGO swerving on braking--seen a few over the years myself :'(  So Get some new ones and get them done correctly :y :y your brakes are fine  :y

What's the steering wheel doing when this happens?
