apologies for not responding sooner guys. Its a 2.5V6 , but its certainly not something I could do myself so just asking what the ballpark cost should be in your opinion to have the cambelt/tensioner done. Cheers

I had mine done at a Vx dealer.

A hefty £360 from memory.........but that did include the waterpump, too.

They originally quoted me something close to £500......but I pleaded poverty. :y

EDIT.......Sorry. Actually it came to £330.........£369.95 including the M.O.T. :y :y :y

cheers guys,
I was sort of hoping around the £250 mark  :-[. Oh well, will see what my usual garage can do it for. Something to save up for methinks...Problem with trying to do it myself-quite apart from mechanical ineptitude ;D-is lack of garage and lack of tools! Ive gained some confidence through doing bits and pieces myself but I think this job well beyond both comfort zone and abilities!
cheers for replies :y

There are specialist mechanics on here who offer their services to members at good rates . The difference being  by using one of them you

know it has been done correctly.  HTH :y

Wasnt St George Turkish? Maybe Cem can help? As for the whole church bell thing, where I am ,on the Norfolk coast ,there are loads of  really nice village churches which-I believe-are mostly Norman but sadly very few have bells which is a real pity. Guess the costs are just prohibitive. I couldnt believe it when I heard it on the news the other day that even Notre Damme had had to wait for so long before  Paris got her replica bells back
He said Norfolk coast in this post.

I'm thinking I'll need mine done soon as well. Just turned 64k and the last one was done by Vx at 37k. Would I be safe enough leaving it to 70k or should I leave it to 75 and will I need to do the water pump as well??

Mileage is your call ... . but there are 24 valves & guides that are in danger of damage should your belt/tensioners fail  ::)  ::)  ::)

I'd leave the water pump on the basis that if it ain't broke ...... don't fix it (with a pattern pump) - your water pump is fan/aux belt driven, not cam belt driven like on a 4 pot car  ;)
