Oil Filter Conversion
« on: 22 May 2013, 19:40:43 »

I have read the maintenance guide about converting my oil filter. I haven't been able to change my filter for some time.

My cannister will have to be cut off because even my local garage can't unscrew the lid.

My only concern is that once I have cut through the case I may not be able to get the inner nut off. (I nearly always have problems getting the old stuff off) Then I will be in some trouble.

Has anyone got experience of doing this conversion? Does this inner nut come off readily?

Thanks in advance.

you will need a large allen key type socket but it does come off fairly easy  :y

The guide says the inner nut should be torqued to 45Nm which is about half as tight as a wheel nut so it should some away without too much of a fight. We will see.

I only have a standard 27mm Socket from my Halfords socket set won't that do the job?

I used a 12mm hex to remove mine. Had to come off to get at the oil cooler unions whilst changing the cooler.

Probably should have added that it can be described as a "Drain Plug Key" 3/8".

My Halfords socket set only include hex sockets up to 10mm. The guide says the inside bolt takes a 27mm socket, which I have, is the guide correct? I don't want to cut it off and find I don't have the correct tools to finish the job.

I just noticed you have a 2.5 and I believe they are a 27mm hex head and not a 12mm allen key type  :-\

My apologies, I was referring to my 2.6, I didn't realise the 2.5 was different.
