Rubbing noise from steering column
« on: 24 May 2013, 22:16:39 »

Hey all.. I've got an intermittent rubbing noise coming from the steering wheel / column area (inside the cabin) which occurs when turning left only. Its starting to drive me slightly mad.. any ideas how to fix?

Many thanks :)

I think I have the same problem. It doesnt do it all the time but its not a rubbing it like a squeel but not high pitched. Hard to explain. Like something is vibrating up through the column and into the steering wheel. I am assuming that its something to do with the power steering or steering box. If I can manage to get a video I will post it up so you can hear the noise. :y Really puzzling  :-\

I  had the same problem......turning left a rubbing noise below the steering wheel..this became worse until something broke and jammed the wheel.....it turned out to be the steering wheel squib which worked the indicators....took steering wheel off and replaced the black round box that goes around the colomn and that fixed it.. :-\ :-\ :y :y

Same as mine-it is part of air-bag system too- when you get one to fit-leave battery on your car disconnected for at least 30 minutes before you remove steering wheel-otherwise you will have air-bag light on when done :y
The part you need is directly behind steering wheel-HTH  :y

Thats not whats wrong with mine. Mine is more a mechanical squeel and its going through the whole column. Replaced my pfl squib 2 weeks ago with one from mfl so I could have steering wheel controls for stereo and stilk does it. I have nit had a chance to sort a video out yet. But hope to in next coupke of days and will post on here when done. :y
