I used to have problems due to Orange and BT Wholesale blaming each other. To resolve it I went instages to BT Infinity which has been fantastic for over 2 years now - cannot remember more than 1 short term (a day or 2 problem) in that time.

When I had problems with Orange Broadband a few years ago I recall that after enquiries I discovered that my local exchange was Unbundled or Unlooped  (cannot remember exact term) for 02 which meant that 02 had their own equipment in my exchange thus avoiding the who blames who culture. Switching to 02 immediately cured the problem but due to distance from exchange I could never get decent speeds above 2 to 3mb mb. After a couple of months with Sky for Sky TV reasons but they were absolutely useless with even lower speeds that 02 and I was able to cancel for their non compliance with the contract (they did threaten to sue me for defamation at one point but withdrew and cancelled). Hence the switch to BT Infinity which has been first class.

I put the blame with our broadband issues very firmly at the door of open reach. They absolutely refuse to replace a buggered stretch of cable that throws more errors than data.  >:(

My BT Infinity line went off briefly last night.  Some silly arse turned off the wrong switch, knocking all the computer/network gear off. What a pillock.

Fortunately, the OOF server, and the associated network gear, and the Zen line are on a UPS, so they stayed up :).

I'm sure there is a perfectly good reason why the BT line's modem isn't plugged in the UPS. Can't think what it is though ;D

Most Mobile Networks use image compression, so sometimes the smiley image does not load fully or if a slow connection the Page gives up loading them.

Try Shift + R (or + A) to reload the image(s) as original before clicking on it, if not then make the smiley from your Keyboard or Cut and Paste from someone elses posted smiley. :) : )

Or go through the pain of constantly reporting it.

FTTC should help with stability and performance

Well.....thats 96hrs and it still aint fixed....

Neighbour, i found out, has the same prob (different ISP) ....and he's connected to the same telegraph pole......so its either that or the local cabinet...

Only upside is my ISP has agreed to pay me compensation as BT hasnt fixed it yet.....

Downside, its bloody slow connected at GPRS....cannot get 3G inside house....outside fine....but im not prepared to go stand in the rain!

I got very good compensation from BT when our line went dead. The original bloke came to our house at 7.30am (BICC cables van) on a Sunday after waking us up by walking up the road with one of those submarine asdic machines. Then came in the house to check connections. Then a hole was dug outside, closing down the pavement. On the following Friday a fella rang, asked if he could come on Saturday morning. Could not find any problem outside the house, it was a connection inside the house, which the first chap should have fixed in 2 minutes flat.
This chap went ballistic when I related the Sunday story, about the time, and that he had checked inside.
We got about £100 compensation, and BT had to pay for a hole to be dug, filled in and tarmaced ;D
