I suspect the car in question has more than it's reported 98k on the clock, mind.. but the insurance group is appealing (the other half might stand a chance of getting insured on it) as is considerably better mpg if the real world figures are anything like manufacturer figures (35mpg around town).

Thanks guys - I didn't realise it was the same lump as the BMW (presumably the 320d of the era); I suppose I should have given the lineage

On one hand I'd love to LPG the Elite but given the rust that's showing and the fact Amy can't get insured on it (well, she can - £3500! ) I thought I'd should investigate alternatives. Best see what (probably laughable) insurance quote she gets on a 75 (which I must admit, I always liked the looks of.. I'll get my flat cap, pipe & slippers now.. )

I rather like these old Rover's but then I'm getting on a bit. 

However, for a 'young stud about town' like yourself, Aaron, it may be a little staid and dreary.

I use to drive a mates who had the saloon version , try the cabin for size first esp if your of portly size

Thanks guys - doubtless that (rather cheap) example will be gone by the time I find some money (since it's all going on petrol at the moment!) but it's one to keep in mind.. assuming I fit in it (I'm not the most svelte person around, Emd ).

In the mean time I'll save money by taking the other halfs 998cc K11 Micra.. now that really is cramped (and almost dangerously slow)!

All the diesel engines were the detuned BMW power plant.

I have driven quite a few (including the underwhelming V8) and compared to the likes of the Omega, Mondeo, Vectra etc they are quite cramped with small windscreens which makes the interior feel small.

They seem reasonably reliable but get through suspension bushes etc just like pretty much any car thse days.

My eldest daughter had one.Hers was nothing but trouble,mainly the turbo.Must take after her dad as the two BMWs I've had [a528i and a 320]have been the only cars I've ever managed to blow the engines out of!
