Should I buy a...
« on: 28 May 2013, 21:14:58 »

2.5TD Landrover Discovery (series 2? N reg) auto

going to be pulling a big box trailer (about 100 miles round trip twice a month), as well as used as daily driver - about 100-150 miles per week, 50/50 m/way and city driving)
also a 1000 mile trip round scotland every summer

Mrs Egg will be learning to drive in it...

looking for advice/comments about comfort, economy, longevity, parts availability, ease of maintenance, reliability etc...

Would prsonally suggest buying a manual if learning to drive :-\

Auto only licenses can be restricting down the road...

Not as restricting as two knee replacements...  :y

No choice but an auto licence, unfortunately.

It also means that there's no way I can justify getting my manual MV6 repaired  :'( :'( :'(

you may also find it hard getting someone who has'nt passed their test insured...or it will be so expensive you will find it unrealistic as i have heard some horror stories of late with old discos and insurance costs!

question updated then:
should I buy a 2000 (X reg?) TD5 discovery?

alternatives are :
3.2 Shogun (I don't own a petrol refinery, unfortunately  :(  )
Landcruiser (I know nothing about them)

Could be partly due to previously mentioned medical issues plus postcode perhaps.
