One for Lizzie?
« on: 30 May 2013, 20:57:09 »

I only caught a bit of this on Calender news[the Yorkshire TV news programme]A steam locomotive called the something of Canada has been loaned to the railway museum in York,it has been repainted-possibly restored?-and is at present standing beside its sister locomotive the Mallard. Both these locos were built in Doncaster.

All 6 surviving A4's will be in York:

Three operational ones:
Sir Nigel Gresley,
Union of South Africa,
Bittern -

Non-operational
Mallard

And also
Dwight D Eisenhower - shipped over from the US
Dominion of Canada - shipped over from Canada

The first and probably last time they will be all together following their original disposal by BR.

Indeed Mark!  And that is a great sight, although I remember some years back they did get 4 back together for a photo-shoot, which was brilliant. 8) 8) 8) :y :y :y

Excellent loco's all round, and always a great memorial to one of the greatest railway engineers, the LNER CME Sir Nigel Gresley. :) :) :)
