Double Puncture
« on: 02 June 2013, 19:56:47 »

Just got back from holiday in the Lakes where I sustained a double puncture whilst climbing Hardknott Pass :'(  I hit a rock on the nearside whilst passing a descending car that had moved over to let me pass.  To cut a long story short, both nearside tyres ruptured and I guess I was lucky not to damage the rims.  I guess that's what you get with low profile tyres although I had spec'd reinforced (97) sidewalls on the rear - Uniroyal Rain thingys - but they still punctured.  The recovery truck couldn't reach me (I was stranded at the Roman fort for those who know the road) and I ended up having to ring a local Whitehaven tyre shop who taxi'd me a spare wheel to get me moving until both flat tyres could be changed.  At the tyre shop I had a choice of cheap Chinese tyres or Falken 914s.  The Falkens worried me a bit with the previous poor comments on the forum but I chose them anyway (didn't really have much choice) at £100 a corner.  They seem fine.  Just need to get the front wheel alignment/camber checked now.

You couldn't have found a more remote place to be stranded.   :( :(

You can just imagine some poor Roman Centurion opening his new draft papers & asking WTF is the Hardnott Pass?  ???  ???  ;D  ;D  ;D
