The old dowager is in for the dreaded test tomorrow, so I decided to give her a wash and brush up in an attempt to seduce the tester.

I can't be arsed to polish a car with a surface area larger than that  of China, so simply use a bucket of Zip wax shampoo followed by a leather, before any water marks take hold.

She'll be ten years old in December so I'm pleased with the results.

Incidentally, can someone tell me why some Corsa's are badged 'twinport' and others ( like Mrs Opti's) are not?. It's a mystery to me.

 Back to the Omega. She set me back £1300 some two years ago. I'd need to buy a 55 plate to get equivalent value today........no easy task.

I'm also having an oil and filter change done.

We've agreed on £30. The Vauxhall dealer provides the labour and the filter, and I provide the GM 10/40 semi.

Each of the two inlet valves per cylinder has their own port (hence "twinport"). Under light/medium throttle and low/moderate engine speeds, one of the ports for each cylinder is closed off by flaps which in turn increases the gasflow through the other ports.
