x20xev ANY IDEAS?
« on: 05 June 2013, 23:20:04 »

hi everyone,
I am a new member, looking to learn from the knolwedge of more experienced omega owners.
I have recently bought a 2000 2.0CD auto, which on the face of it looked a very clean car.  When viewing the motor i noticed a rattling from the front of the engine, which I reckoned to be a timing belt idler bearing or water pump.  This didnt really concern me as I trained as a mechanic and wasnt worried about dealing with the issue.  The seller assured me there was a belt and water pump fitted less than a thousend miles earlier, however as he was clearly a trader I didnt really take this to be gospel.  So once home i proceeded to replace the belt, the tensioner and idler rollers.  I decided against the water pump as it was clearly brand new as was the belt, however the rollers werent and were a bit rattly.

Once all was back together the engine sounded much quieter, until today, when after running about for a while the rattle was back.  before i start pulling it apart again does anyone know of any common issues with this engine, or point me to a thread that may shine some light on this?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read my essay.
P.s it may be helpfull to you to know the vehicle has covered 113000miles but still pulls like a stabbed rat, and the only other issues ive noticed is a slight blow from exhaust maniflod area when cold (but goes once warmed) and an oil leak from front crank oil seal or sump gasket (not investigated properly yet).
Thanks once again.

Mine went and it sounded like a horrible rattle/grating noise

also the noise seems to be coming more from the other side of the block to the pump.
