EML lights engine lump and spanner
« on: 09 June 2013, 15:43:29 »

Y188NFA 2.2 manual petrol saloon
This beast has 2 engine warning lights, as has my 2003 3.2.  The owners handbook does not know one from t'other, treating them identically. They do not act together, anyway why have two when one was quite adequate on earlier models. I think they do it to confuse me.

On the above car, engine lump light was on, and there was oil in the plug holes, so I have changed the cam cover gaskets, cleared the breathers and changed the plugs. It now runs perfectly, but the engine lump light is still on. It will not give me any codes.

What is it trying to tell me? Might it clear itself in time?

One of them is the engine management light & the other is the emissions warning lamp

Thanks chaps.
I suspect the engine lump light is the emission one. I can believe the emissions are bad because the cat is a Timken aftermarket one fitted two years ago. I wonder on what basis the ECU is dissatisfied? Are the lambda sensors unable to achieve the desired oxygen level ( I believe that is what they measure)?
My earlier Omegas have failed on emissions, but no light came on then.
