How To Locate / Disconnect Alarm
« on: 10 June 2013, 23:58:07 »

Hi,

My Omega will be scrapped tomorrow however I have a serious problem. I only had one key for the car and it has now gone missing. I have raided the house up and down for it and it is no where to be found.

The problem is, I left a few of my things in the car including the stereo which I wanted. I also wanted to take the catalyst converters out as I was offered good money for them by the local cat guy.

If I was to quickly zap the drivers window to get the bonnet open, can I simply disconnect the car battery? Or does the alarm run of its own battery? I have read before that it has an internal battery that can go iffy sometimes causing it to sound.

Many regards,  :-[

If the alarm is armed with led flashing? then power sounder should activate & horn will sound.

I'll check tomorrow but I do believe that the red light does flash on the dashboard.

What I am asking is, can I stop the horn by simply disconnecting the car battery?

Thanks!

Quick question. Where is the blinky LED located? I just popped outside to take a look and I can't see any blinking light. On my other cars its usually on the passenger side somewhere.

If no light is blinking, then that means the alarm is disengaged, right?

No.Assuming the power sounder is still fitted and working it has its own intenal battery and it will emit an ear piercing screech. ;)
Blinky light is towards the lower centre of the dash, below the radio iirc.
Not certain if no light means alarm not armed tbh, hopefully someone else will know.

Aww damn, there's a bunch of things I dumped into the car temporarily and its blocking the view. GRGH!

I do recall I used the actual key itself to lock the door and not the fob, if that makes a difference.

I have read it is possible to 'disconnect' the powersounder. Is it possible to simply cut the wire that goes to it?

This thread shows how to access it but is there a way to cut the cable going to it? It says in the thread it could takes 30 minutes but that would pretty much render me deaf before I managed to silence it.

when my c/l (drivers door) was on the fritz I was locking/unlocking the door with the key.
and arming/dis-arming the alarm with the key fob. I noticed that the led on my 2003 car didn`t start flashing until I armed the the alarm with the key fob

Interesting, do you think that had something to do with your driver door being problematic though?

Thanks again!

The whole idea of the power sounder is that it sounds in the even of the main battery being disconnected, so cutting the wire to it, or unplugging it won't make a difference ...... assuming the power sounder still works - but on a 97 car, I can't see it still working.

But if the alarm isn`t armed then there will be no need to remove the battery lead  :y

Thanks for the reply.

If the only way to get to it is by removing the bulkhead (assuming its still working) how do you silence it... bury it underground or something?

But I can't see the lower part of the dashboard to check for the blinky light as its covered up with stuff I chucked into the car. :(

The car is locked .............. therefore the alarm is most likely armed (unless the car was locked by pressing the driver's lock button via the back door) ;)
