Hi all,
I have an outdated PCI-E Graphics Card installed in this computer. Its a 9800GTX 1gb card. Can anyone please tell me what an upgrade Nvidia card would be. I can only afford about £40-£50. I am unsure of the present 3 digit numbers of Nvidia cards. I require it mainly for flight sim. I do know that because a card number may be newer than the existing, it does not mean it will be better, if that makes sense. I don't understand the tech stuff of comparing.
I am running a dual core AMD 6000 at 3ghz with 8gb ram. PLEASE don't tell me I need to update this and that, etc...I cannot afford it. Not meant to be arsey with that statement, I know I am outdated, but I am not like you lot, earning £100,000 a year !!!!!  :) If you think I can't upgrade without changing everything, fair enough, I'll have to stick with what I have.
If you think its a cpu problem, rather than a card, what cpu would I need without changing the MB. MB is socket AMD2. I think that's socket 939!  Reason for thinking upgrade is when flying, graphics seem to take their time updating.
This may not be a card issue....but remember that when I built this thing, it was the best I could afford, and worked ok, but as some of the scenery/aircraft I load now are more graphical, I take it that the card is suffering

Advice appreciated. :y

I had a couple of medium spec Radeon cards both 1GB and have HDMI output to use on TV, extremely happy with both, both using 3GHz Dual core E8400 (Plus 2GB DDR2) and not a single complaint on either.

Just looked through reciepts, cards have got a lot more powerfull and cheaper

Just built myself an 8core AMD PC, and treated myself to a 2GB NVidea GTX660, nice card, but I personaly think the Radeons are better

But I would advise any GDDR5 card

There is a web site that compares the performance of any 2 video cards, maybe worth checking the performance of yours against any possible purchase.  :y

Just had a quick sniff at your e-buyer link.... yes a bit high, but maybe possible, but my problem is comparing. When it gets to techy, I am lost...I need someone to say (for instance, in plain English) that a xxxxxxx is the next stage up to a 9800gtx or the best you will get that is better than the 9800gtx is a xxxxxxx

A lot of the newer cards are power hungry and need extra power connectivity

Exactly the reason I went for Console based gaming, the constant need and cost to upgrade was annoying!

Is that a cheap Chinese 750W, or a proper branded 750W? (yes, there is a difference).

Do your homework, as remember that a current generation budget card is still not a match to an older (couple of generations) high end card.
