Time to sneak of for a carvery then.  The local pubs are getting better and better value these days.
Do'nt like carvery/family places. I miss real PUBS with a jukebox, pool table, dartboard. Proper "Boozers" are thin on the ground nowadays. I'm not into eating at the pub. Pubs used to be for drinking with your mates, now it's corperate chain plastic whacky wharehouse jobs with Mums & kids screaming at eachother & Dads wishing it was Monday.
"Locals" are sadly gone now but for once i'm happy to be old enough to have enjoyed them.
I don't think you'll see anyone playing cards or crib in W'spoons. :'(

Real pubs with Jukeboxes?  You have to be kidding!

I don't quite date from the spit-and-sawdust days, but that sort of place was around before I was allowed to go into pubs.  Carpet and music were rare, thank goodness.  Darts, shoveha'penny, bar billiards - that was your lot.  Mild in the Public, Bitter in the Saloon.  Port-and-lemon and Lager-and-lime for the ladies.
