Vitamin d
« on: 18 June 2013, 10:43:24 »

Just been down the docs and he thinks I am low in vitamin d. I know you body makes this thru getting sunlight onto your skin. Trouble is not a lot of sun around here. Does anybody know of a good way of getting a supplement either from food or a tablet.

With the lack of sun we have had in the UK for the last 2 years, this is a big problem.

When I was out in the Ukraine a few weeks ago, I made sure I spent plenty of time in the sun to increase my vitamin D and felt much better for it.

Here is a list of food high in Vitamin D

Just Google "Foods high in vitamin D"

A quick look at that list tells me that I should be eating lots of oily fish (good, I do love fish!) or babyfood..

I think I'll stick to the fish! ;D

I am currently under a consultant for a skin condition. He would like me to spend 3 weeks in the sun to get some vitamin D. Upshot is I cannot afford that so spend every moment I can out doors.

There are tablets etc. available but according to consultant they have many nasty side effects, in his words "it is worse than the lack of vitamin D "

Even on dull days you will get some benefit.

So.. you need him to sign you off for a couple of weeks to sit on a beach in the South of France watching the birds absorbing vitamin D. :y

Apparently the consultant says that people living in Norway can get up to 3 weeks in the sun on there version of the national health. Obviouslyyou have to have a problem to get it.  :'(

This should be fine.

Most people on the island will be Vit D deficient. Not usually a problem if you live in the tropics.

Interesting thought process. My son take these as a general supplement.

Contains RDA of Vit D. No side effects at all. Infact I cannot recall most child Vit D supplements to have any side effects other than a laxative effect if taken in excess.
