my understanding is that you should have an alignment done ad I personally would. however if he counted the threads on the inner tie rod and snugged the lock nut/outer track rod accordingly it wil be close to bang on.

but you should imo  :y

I see no reason to change track rods in pairs, so long as the old track rod is freely adjustable. If it is not, I would remove it from the car and free it.

Having spent too much time disagreeing with Terry, I would like to make it known that I fully agree with him this time. No need to change both, but keep a close eye on the other one, if it has equal miles on it. ;)

Strictly speaking....Just set the tracking! ...but take it somewhere with accurate equipment. Which usually means a hawk eye laser liner. Its hard enough to get the steering straight on these without the chalk and a piece of string experts adding their tuppence worth.

Agreed no need to change TREs in pairs - although if one has gone other may not be too long behind it!

Whilst counting the threads gives it an approx degree of accuracy only, it at least allows you to drive as far as your friendly geo guy to check/set tracking ;)

Whats the point in replacing one then 100 miles later the other one goes  ??? They only cost pennies and if he gets the tracking done he will have to pay out again for tracking when the other TRE goes  :-\
