Hi chaps
Well i have 3 OPEL omegas in the family. One of them is MFL (I think) v6 2.5 manual German Opel. others are 2.0 PFL - one 8v - other 16v.
lately gathered a few questions and decided to combine them. Will try to be as short as I can with sufficient information.

Q1. DIFF

There was a rumor before ( for omega A/ Carlton) that estates used slower diff than saloons. Looking through some info around for Omega B - all 2.0 and 2.5 including saloons and estates seems to be fitted with 3.9 diff ratio. well hayness says PFL v6 manual were with 3.7 diff. Any comments? maybe difference to mainland europe models? Seems weird same diff and gearbox for 2.0 8v and v6 2.5 24v - 112 vs 170 BHP

Q2. Engine loom

Well both 2.0 omegas are my dads. He travels alot and used to use 16v more than 8v before 16v seized engine.
A few differences between the 2  :

16v - LPG sequential inj. vs singlepoint venturi  type
16v has working air con vs crippled system on 8v that requires alot to make it work.
16v is around 150k miles vs 8v that is over 300K miles (yes miles)...
So you get the drift 8v is quite tired car with quite a bit of miles on t
he clock.

Here is a weird bit - 8v engine is superb. No oil usage, pulls strong ( for 112BHP), very quiet and on idle barely one can hear it run.

I am sure this 8v is a replacement engine in the cars life. So i am planning on switching engines and having 8v car for bits.
Mechanics are easy as these use same engine blocks. Electronic is another story. I can see 2 options at the moment:

option A: make mount for camshaft sensor to be used on v8 original cam pulley ( same size as one of the 16v) and extend coolent temp sensor wire to go front - where it is mounted on 8v. This would use original 16v wiring and ECU. Might be slightly over fueling at higher revs on petrol.  Dont think would make too big difference.

Option B: Swapping engine loom and ECU together with engine. In this case would have to rewire LPG injection system.

I would prefer option A as 16v ecu is superior due to proper sequencial work( cant say the same for ecu for 8v - not sure thou - Omega A  was deffo not true fully sequential)

Q3. Dash display language on MFL v6 omega

On my omega display language is german. I have 2 complete dashboards in my spares  from UK vauxhalls( one is deffo from FL 02 plate 2.2 other - have no clue whatsoever - probably someone gave it to me without me knowing it). Question - will i be in english if i swap displays or is language stored somwhere else? Is it possible to change language without going to miles on everything, but stay with km as units?

Answers and/or comments on any of the subjects will be much appreciated.

If the top end of the 16V is okay, then keep that and fit to the bottom half of the 8V.  Never done it myself so don't know if it will work though.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

Language is stored on the display until itself.

Language is stored on the display unit itself.
Is TID/MID/CID/GID multi-language selectable? or is a single language burnt into each device?

Are the units (mile/km gal/litre etc) selectable? (I think the answer to that one is yes)

If both of the above are selectable (presumably through Tech2) is it possible to change them independently? (or is it a case of picking a country code that is nearest to the language and units that you prefer?)

Thanks to Andy H for asking these questions for me  :)

If someone could help with answers would be superb.

Going to the shed to get dashboards out for further inspection

Forgot to reply to alank46 - even though both engines use same engine block, they use different design of pistons. I have previously changed both type of engines on my dad's cars ( even in the last year and a half). So had both engines in my garage to play with. still have pistons, ecotecc head with few gone valves and 2 cracked valve guides. Can show pictures to see the difference in pistons if anyone asks.

I was going to say selectable, but then I had a moment of doubt, and now I'm unsure. I thought it asks for language (from a handful of european ones), but its so long since I've seen one, I honestly cant remember. I know GIDs/CIDs definately do.

Are the units (mile/km gal/litre etc) selectable? (I think the answer to that one is yes)
As above, I think its an option during programming

If both of the above are selectable (presumably through Tech2) is it possible to change them independently? (or is it a case of picking a country code that is nearest to the language and units that you prefer?)
If I am right, they would be independent. But I can't confirm until I see another Omega than has a MID.

Yes, but the 8v engine will probably produce its' power at lower RPM than the 24v.

Also, remember that gearbox ratios may be different too. This is certainly the case between auto and manual and the reason why the manual V6s have a taller diff ratio than the autos.

A couple of links that may help:
