Grill & wheels
« on: 27 June 2013, 19:44:28 »

Hi, I've just acquired an 2002 dti and want to fit some nice 17" wheels and a mean looking grill. So would love to hear your idea's and recommendations.

Or you can always pay silly money if you want.

Their crap those plastic FK automotive grills...

Well I replaced my standard one with it last year and it looks much better (doesn't look like a Vectra anymore!).  To be honest there's not much to go wrong with a grill, it's not a vital part of the car but anyway mine's still working :).  You do need a badge to break it up something like

Take it off there will be loads of scratches and scuff marks on the paint potentially enough to start rust.. Genuine Irmy grills are padded the same way a VX one is  ;)

Well mine seemed as good and soft a fit as the original.  Remember the grill isn't a moving part and it is made of plastic. I can't help thinking the bonnet will have long since rusted away from stone chips before the grill has eaten  it.

Guy I know bought one of these. His view was that the quality was less than commensurate with the price.  It lasted 2 weeks on his car - said it looked cheap - he took it off and junked it.  Guess moral is you get what you pay for :-\

Had a FK Automotive one on the silver 2.2 for a short while and I can confirm it sure does look and feel cheap (then again they are pretty cheap compared to genuine Irmy).. The only way to go imo if you want a non VX grill is a genuine Irmscher one with the chrome and irmscher badge which looks great on a darker colour car  :y or even a Opel Grill with just the opel logo in the middle not the one with the chrome line on both sides of the badge but I believe that's pretty rare  :-\

Yes agreed the second Opel grill looks the best, black with a central badge, always wanted one like that.
I think this is the £23 FK grill in question:

Not my car but OOF opinion seemed to be positive.  I like it.  To my mind, as mentioned, it just needs a small badge in the middle to break up the black. Like the Opel one.

No offence but I think the Irmscher chrome noddy toy car, offset to one side, looks naff chavtastic!:

Yeah me too, could tell the difference from the £250 irmshcer grill at 2 miles,  faded in a few days, bits fell off and wrote off his rad, sucked into air intake, valve damage, stalled engine and ran over a granny.  And his bonnet rusted to nothing in 2 weeks.  But you try and tell the young people of today that and....
