poor quality alloys
« on: 28 June 2013, 12:33:38 »

I really like our new Astra sports tourer (thats estate  to you lot). A 2lt CDI autobox she has plenty of poke -if not as quick off the mark as the omega-and as an sri has some nice touches like ambient lighting around the gear lever. I know all small estates these days are pretty much the same style wise in order to avoid the old boxy look, but its a good looking car and looks smart in the carbon black .The problem with black though is that it quickly gets to look dusty so I cleaned it the other day and I was doing the alloys and already there are parts where they are flaking and blistering. Its only got about 900 miles on the clock!! Luckily its a lease car, and though we'll report it, its not  particularly a problem. If I'd just bought one for the amount of money they cost new Id be seriously p*ssed off though. If this is what has happened after just a month or so , what will they be like in a few years?

A generation of Toyota alloys were just as bad - all of them on the MR2 from 2000-2006 would blister in months; it seems the finish is pretty poor on a lot now and as soon as moisture gets through the paint they start to blister and flake :(

Apart from the centre covers  the alloys on the omega are really good, no flaking, no blistering and thats on a 1998 car with 190k on the clock so to say I was a bit disappointed with he state of the Astra's would be an understatement...

No joke :'( The new Frod Transhit is based on the Hy-and-dry i800 :o

Saw the two parked together earlier, same lights, same interior, same stoopid size...

To misquote a famous telecoms slogan:

The future's bleak. The future's beige :'(

Ps. Frod can't paint wheels for toffee either, but at least Toyota pretended to be embarrassed about having to replace all four wheels on my mums 6 month old Rav4 back in 2003 :-\
