oil leak
« on: 30 June 2013, 13:03:04 »

Can. You believe it just found a patch of oil under my car as I cane back from shopping I dropped a pound and as I picked it up I could see it . Anyway with close inspection and a old cloth I've managed to find where it coming from . Its dripping between the gearbox and the engine at the bottom. My inclination is that it could be the rest crank shaft seal any other ideas ??? .  Problem is I go back in hospital in morning for another operation on my knee so be out of action for a week or two . Any other ideas it's definitely engine oil . There is a plus side if gearbox has to come out it's playing up kind of goes in neutral when driving just revs up which is doing my head in . Any ideas what that could be . Many thanks Mick  :y

Sorry 2.2 sport estate 53 plate . Cleaned all breathers out early last year when it started to leak at the sensor under power steering pump . Found out the rubber washer had perished . That all sorted .no oil leaks on cam covers . I can see it dripping out .

I've just found an oil leak on my new purchase which is in the same place as described by the o.p  >:(

I'm also thinking cam gasket leak but they were changed and cleaned out in 2011 by the last owner so I'm guessing they need doing again or I could have a leak elsewhere?  :-\

Small patch of oil on floor just under centre of dashboard area?   :-\

Sump plug perhaps loose / broken etc? Let's hope it is that  :'(

Can't see it being the cam gaskets as they were done two years ago but you never know............  ::)

hold on a minute mate--gearbox playing up=leak-you sure its not gearbox oil??  as your box problem indicates low oil---think about it---could be  :y

No probs with gearbox that I'm aware of, nice and smooth and no warnings or check messages on??

Think I need to get the sump plug checked and then the cam gaskets etc  ;)

As I'm looking at the engine bay I can see oil at the back right hand side and looks like its travelling down and causing the patch on the floor.

Could this be a blocked breather, cam gaskets or oil cooler issue?

Unclip the crankcase breather hose at rear right of camcover see if it`s full of shite. Definitely not oil cooler, that lives above oil filter on 4-pot
