I didn't take too much interest in this at first but as the story is unfolding it's becoming quite interesting.

The Hong Kong authorities seemingly dragged their feet when the US government requested his arrest and extradition and he flew to Moscow, where he has been for over a week now. The US have revoked his passport so he can't travel and the Russians can't arrest and extradite him (even if they wanted to) as he remains in the transit area of Moscow airport, which technically is not Russian territory.

Although I'd bet my bottom ruble that the Russian security services have thoroughly 'interviewed' him!

It's reported this morning that he has applied to 21 countries for political asylum and the US is screaming blue murder that they want him back!! The irony is that America has granted asylum to Russian and Chinese dissidents in the past, but of course I'm sure that this is completely lost on our friends in Washington.

The other irony is that if he was Russian or Chinese and had spilled state secrets they would also be fuming and possibly would take direct action, remember Litvinyenko?

All in all, it's like something from the cold war!

Will the Russians let him stay at the airport? (which is probably crawling with CIA agents!!) Who will blink first??
