AC overhaul
« on: 07 July 2013, 19:48:39 »

Well, I've ordered a new condenser drier, and a refurbed compressor for the 3.2, and as my compressor is not turning, there will be hardly any gas in it, start stripping on Tuesday, other jobs permitting. :y

On the matter of the Compressor, according to the supplier I am responsible for ensuring that the correct amount of PAG150 oil is in it before fitting. Any advice how best to achieve this? Is it as simple as tipping out what's in it, and refilling with the correct amount? :-\ :-\ :-\

Interesting thread Shack, no experience of this so look forward to seeing how you get on. :)

I'm told removing the pump is awkward. :-\

It is! Even more challenging is bolting the pipe work to the top of the compressor with one hand at arm's reach  ???  ;)

Me too. 2.2s air con is totally knackered. Be nice to get it going again.

Any chance of a guide?  :-*

Regarding the oil, you'll need to get it charged with the correct amount when the refrigerant is filled. Best to go to someone who knows what they are doing to ensure this is done. I believe certain quantities have to be added a certain points in the system.

New compressors should come charged with oil ???

I suppose they should, but the suppliers cover their a**e with this:

Warranty: All condensers now come with a 2 year warranty from date of order, all other parts supplied come with a 12 month warranty. Compressor warranty subject to receiver drier, expansion valve and system flush, failure to do so may invalidate warranty.

YOU MUST CHECK OIL LEVEL IN COMPRESSORS BEFORE INSTALLATION, FAILURE TO DO SO WILL INVALIDATE WARRANTY. COMPRESSORS SUPPLIED DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE CORRECT OIL CHARGE SO IT IS THE INSTALLERS RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK.

I'll do my best, but not good with the piccies. There is a good one for condenser swap already, so it's the compressor swap that could do with a guide. :y
