Budget £200-£300

Can anyone recommend a place to get a decent new machine, Preferably somewhere online that delivers

Also what are they like on electric say compared to a standard portable heater ?

Mine must be 12yrs old, was about £300 from B&Q IIRC (it was a hot summer, everyone has run out).

Believe its fused at 10A (may be 13A), and rated at about 2kW.  It will hammer your leccy bill.

Remember, you need somewhere to vent it, and its amazing how hot the vented air gets. Additionally, the portable ones tend to be quite noisey.

Aye the ventilation might be a problem would have to consider having a opening in the wall for the pipe rather than leave the window open but then again it's not like i'll be using it all year round, Think I've seen something that attaches to the window while its open with a round hole for the pipe but no gap in the window (stop these pesky flys coming in), That would probably be the better option if I can find one that fits

Seen many on eBay mainly used ones between £50 - £250, Not so sure about greeting a used one yet unless I can find somewhere that sells these. Could stop by b&q / homebase or similar shops see what they have.

On Waterloo station yesterday Dyson opened a stand for their range of designer cooling systems/ fan replacement. Right in the middle of the concourse on a hot day was not best way to demo them but may be worth a look even though not a/c as such.

The Dyson Air Multiplier - expensive though.

Yeah seen them, Look nice and fairly quiet but their pretty much a 200-300 quid fan already got enough of them just need a proper AC portable machine so the fans can circulate it better around the rooms

It is actually cooler here now than it was at the start of July. I am using my weather station. The crossover point where the temp outside is lower than inside is between midnight and 1.0 a.m. Last night is was 23 in and out at just gone midnight. Felt nice though as not humid.

When mine packs up, I don't think I'd replace with another portable unit, but fit a proper fixed one.

As to the query on runing costs, I don't think a newer one would be any more efficient - (traditional) fans and refrigerant hasn't really progressed much.
