What's the going rate for garage work?
« on: 23 July 2013, 15:24:25 »

Been quoted £60/hr inc VAT for a job on the Jag (a rather large job I don't want to do myself)  I have the parts already so the quote is just for the work alone.

Is this expensive or not?  I don't normally frequent garages but on this my hand is forced.

Around these parts, back street garages start around the 40 quid plus the dreaded VAT per hour

If you take a Merc to Mercedes, they'll relieve your wallet of £110 per hour!!

I stopped using my local independent about three years ago when I saw that he was charging £95 per hour for labour. Cheeky bastid.

Try Rees Bros around the corner from me Matt.

They did the suspension work on the Beemer for me last year for £45 per hour inc (I also supplied all the parts).
It's a proper old school garage, with proper old school mechanics, and a proper job done right first time.

I have a simple rule when it comes to Mechanics and their prices..... If it costs more than a case of beer, I'm getting my hands dirty!

£60 an hour is sort of reasonable ime. £45 is good rate . Nothing that cheap near me. :)

Actually, £60 is about as much as you can get away with before your into dealer rates.

Indys down this end are from £35 up to around £60 /hour depending on what they specialise in.
