Sky Customers
« on: 01 August 2013, 22:06:26 »

Now is a great time, if you are out of contract to get some serious discounts from sky.

I've just spent the best part of the evening on the phone and have reduced my monthly payment from £76.25 to £40.72 AND I will shortly receive a new Sky+ HD box for the bedroom AND full-fat Fibre Broadband.

BT is really ruffling those Sky feathers!  :y

That is the Sky TV package, Copper BB (I can see the exchange from my house) and Telephone with Evening and Weekend calls.

To be honest, I wasn't pushing for Fibre as my copper connection is excellent.  But, if it comes for free, I'll 'ave it.

Interesting.

As always in life, the object of the exercise is to get what you want as cheaply as possible. IMO.

I shall be looking into this smartish. Thanks BM. :)

Exactly - I've always been very pleased with what I got from Sky.... especially the Discovery channels and others which are unavailable on BT.  ESPN has (since last night) been shut down on Virgin......  HD is a big thing for me to, especially with films and music channels.  My surround system utilises the HD signal and makes everything much better.

Sky may charge what some people would call "a lot", but I wouldn't be without it.

Indeed. Its a first class service IMO. ...I fear I may be drawn by a cheaper similar service, then find the box software is slow, flakey, crashey etc.

Sky boxes need improving IMO, but I have yet to encounter a pvr /set top box that's better.

Is there better...?

How long has it been 'in-house' Tunnie? The new box we got in November is one of those 'reduced volume' thingys. Old box volume at 30 blew us out of the room. New box volume at 70 to be heard comfortably.... :(

Under-steer is when the front of the car hits the wall, and over-steer is when the rear of the car hits the wall.
Power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how much of the wall you take with you.

It's been house for some time now, but took them time to design and build new boxes. November probably is a new on, they are considerably smaller in size compared to the old HD ones.

Pre Windows 8 Media Center (complete with yankee spelling) ;)

Fast, versatile and configurable. Oh, and your entire HDD is yours ;D.  The key the MCE is not let it be pissed around with by people who's IT ego doesn't match their IT capability (ie, if you install mega-spasmo-deluxe-codec-packs, you will shag it)

But in a few years all that will be built into our telly (when our current non smart is replaced) surely?

Like to think so, but can you imagine the likes of Sony having such open systems built in to their consumer electronics? I would expect them to go down the line of more proprietry, locked-in method, that allow force upselling...

The current Smart technologies built in to tellys are currently little more than gimmicks, with perhaps the only useful feature being a (clunky on most) iPlayer.
