help with a merc please
« on: 06 August 2013, 19:48:35 »

It is my dads c220, 2001 diesel. It goes into limp mode, resets after a restart. Code reader showed boost sensor fail. With it plugged into the reader after it went into limp mode I cleared the code and the engine then revs fine. My question is would the code get thrown up because something else has put it into limp mode. It doesn't say boost pressure high or low, just fail. This wasnt from the Merc star diagnosis, but was a decent code reader that reads all systems. I don't want to start buying/replacing bits without being fairly certain.
Any help/advice would be great.

can sometimes be a split pipe coming off the boost sensor that causes problems

Cheers, will check. It does seem to run fine until it goes into limp mode, can't hear any whistles under boost. I think that as it logged it as a sensor fail rather than boost low or high I will just replace the sensor.
Thanks,  Al
