Spain/Gibralter

Best comment I've seen for a long time:

Hi Spain. Only me. I just google-mapped Gibraltar as I didn't really know where you kept it. And I couldn't help notice this little place just over the water called Ceuta. I think it's yours but you've actually left it in someone else's country and Wikipedia tell me that Morocco rather want it back. I'm not being funny, Spain, but is this the pot calling the kettle Moorish? Anyways, send my love to Portugal. Toodleoo.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D :y :y :y

Ceuta and Melilla are a bit different.

A better bet is to support my campaign to have Andalucia given back to the Moors. It was taken from them 500 years ago. I think they would run it better than this lot and then there would be no issues with Gibraltar either. I will run the campaign on Facebook and Titter. First I will have to find them. ;D ;D

Taking an interesting turn. Spain is teaming up with Argentina to cry foul to anyone who will listen . About Gib, Falklands. While the Spanish minister is in Argentina he is also going to ask when Repsol are going to get compensated for the oil company the Argies just grabbed. I bet the minister has had a nice bung from Repsol to do that. :o

far from "going away" it seems the subject is being ramped up. Meanwhile my campaign to give Andalucia back to the Moors has attracted zero interest - predictably. ;D ;D

I assume where the Spanish government is targeting Gibraltar their economic meltdown is now approaching the level of Argentina's, so they are trying to divert the populations attention for the same reasons.  ::) ::) ::)

No. The Catalans are waiting to see the outcome of Scotland which I fervently hope will stay in the UK.

Can we not just quietly ship arms to all the ex-pats living in Spain and then invade? ;)

As always in the history of World politics Rods2.  Nothing changes, and this is a classic example of that manoeuvring.

This morning Royal Navy ships (task force?) are on their way to Gibraltar for their usual "naval exercises at this time of the year" as quoted by the BBC.  :D :D :D :D :y

In 2002, Britain accidentally(?) invaded Spain when a detachment of Marines from 45 Commando mistakenly(?) stormed a beach in La Linea de la Concepción, the Spanish town that borders Gibraltar. They were repulsed by two Spanish police officers... .

My brackets and question marks!!!, yes the Spanish Police are that scary.

Let us hope it goes better this time. Gibraltar is the big sticky out rock with apes on it........... ;D ;D

No, this is a task force which the BBC lists as follows:

"The group includes HMS Bulwark, HMS Illustrious, HMS Montrose and HMS Westminster. Helicopter carrier HMS Illustrious departed from Portsmouth on Monday morning and will join the navy flagship HMS Bulwark, which has sailed from Devonport.

HMS Westminster will be stopping over in Gibraltar, accompanied by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships Lyme Bay and Mounts Bay."

I do not think anyone, let alone the Spanish, will challenge that if push comes to shove! :D :D :D ;)

Hmmm I dunno Lizzie! I expect the Spanish have more rowing boats than us and they're probably more modern!  Hell, they might even be able to fly aeroplanes off them!!  :-\

I expect they are still pissed about Trafalgar!!  ::)  ;D

It's not just Ceuta there are a few more Spanish Gibraltars:

Having said that all the stuff about the 1714 treaty that gave us Gib is a little rich.  We did illegally and violently occupy it 10 years earlier.
