Best (or good) anti-virus software
« on: 10 August 2013, 14:41:18 »

I'm currently using avast (free) and Malwarebytes (free) and found a few viruses and malware but some files were not scanned according to the computer because they were password protect but to my knowledge that isnt the case. Why could this be?

Anyway, I do online banking so I don't mind paying for something good, but would like something that would scan for viruses and malware. Any recommendations?

No problems with Avast and Malwarebytes - both competent pieces of software ;)

I haven't used any anti-virus/spyware/malware software for years.

They are just memory hogging crap which is unnecessary if you use anything other than IE. *spits*.

Install FireFox, install the AdBlock+ addon and enjoy surfing the web without worry.

Why change if it works for you.  I found Avast was getting a bit bloaty, but nowhere near as bad as AVG has become.

Personally, I'm now using MS Security Essentials.

Is that compatible with Win8 J?

Kaspersky internet security for me, used to have Norton but far too resource hungry and slow. Plus it managed to let a virus through which didn't go down well.

+1.  Best of the free ones available at the moment IMO.

That's great!  That way you aren't pestered by an AV when your computer is infected.  Firefox, Chrome, etc all have their place but thinking that they are in anyway more secure than IE is dangerous.
