2.6 coi; packs
« on: 22 August 2013, 20:20:49 »

Hi all. Urgent advice needed.
Had a misfire problem and did the pedal trick. Random misfire and coil 4 came up.
Took them out today and had a good look round. 1 3 5 bank showed signs of wear and small cracks. 2 4 6 was a right mess. fell apart when I removed it. Best price I can see is on the bay £150 each side. Any suggestion for a better source of Bosch replacements would be good.
The real question though is this. The source of the problem seems to be water dropping from plenum onto coil packs. I water tested the areas and was shocked to see drops of water coming from plenum area. Has anyone had this and found a fix which sets the plenum up proper but at the same time stops water ingress.
Any pointers greatly appreciated.
Ps the how to on removing the coils is superb especially the tip of using the plenum bolts to pull them out.

Just found Vauxcentre online based in Romford. Anyone had experience. They are selling genuine Bosch new parts for £80 a side. Half the price of the best dealer.

Sorry folks need to clarify my request. when I say plenum I am refering to the nasty plastic thing that covers the wiper mech etc. I have tested it sits right and the screen seal is secure but it just seems to allow water into engine bay by design. help please.

Usually around the base of the wiper arm, try a smear of clear sealant around the base where the scuttle meets the arm.

Given price, those second hand coil packs would be worth a go  ;)

On the 246 side the scuttle join area is the culprit. You need to run a bead of sealant along the metal scuttle drain in place of the draft excluder stuff that's there, where the plastic scuttle sits on.
Main problem is stopping the water falling back into the engine bay from the metal scuttle drain.

135 side is the hole for the drivers side wiper spindle. Again, sealant, but stick the foam backed washer to the scuttle.

Re coil pacs, £70 to £80 a side should secure new bosch from a factors.
