Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 2 Experiences please.
« on: 24 August 2013, 22:18:09 »

My rears are shot and sliding around in the wet like theres an oil slick down on every corner, so looking for first hand experience of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 2 in oe sizes, including Irmscher wheels etc. please.

Suspect similar performance from my Sc3's but quieter so might give the Asym 2 a go.

Oh, and please state how long you've has yours fitted.

I don't believe cem has this model on an oe omega size, so not really relevant to him.

Although I'd be interested in any feedback he may have. He does have F1's fitted, I think. :)

GY F1 Asym2 235/40/18, pretty certain its Y95, fitted on front only.  Only done a a couple of k on them. Fitted on front only on Irmscher Sportstars, proper Omega size/offset.

Seems to be pretty stable. Grip levels seem to be good, both laterally and under braking. Not to same levels as the RTs on the other car. Hard to judge how it compares to SC3, as its about 5yrs since I've had SC3s on mine, and I obviously don't drive other people's cars as hard.

If you are not in a desperate hurry, and can wait until our paths cross again (though I'll likely have other car at Newent, so thats no good ;D), you are welcome to pop them on yours and test - bearing in mind they are 30mm narrower than what you currently have.

Should just add, I can't comment on durability, or on how they react as they wear more.

whatever I say good or bad wont be meaningful imo..  direct comparison with other tyres must be made by measurements..

I have them all round on my 3.2 estate in 235/45/17 (standard fl elite wheels). I don't really like giving opinions, as what suits me may not be your cup of tea, which is why I offered TB a drive in it so that he could form his own opinion (although it didn't happen in the end). Same offer applies to you Chris.  :y
Your car is going to be a lot 'tighter' than my 'baggy' elite but I'll give my view based on my car.

My own opinion of them is:

Straight line standing start, full throttle off the lights, wet or dry = very good grip, no spin.
Fast'ish cornering dry = good grip, no squeal.
Moderate speed cornering wet = good grip, never given me any cause for concern.
Rapid change of direction = never caused me any concern.
Straight line, stamp on the brakes stopping dry = very good. Good enough for my rucksack to come flying through the gap between the seats.  ;D
Straight line, stamp on the brakes stopping wet = very good, never had cause for concern. Depending on road surface, either minimal abs intervention or no abs intervention so I assume that equals good grip.
Tramling, or my interpretation of it = usually quite good but, I'm not going to lie, they can be 'upset' by uneven road repairs. Never overly 'worried' me as such but you can feel it so this is why I don't like giving my opinion. My 'feel' may be someone else's annoyance.  :-\
Road noise = they don't seem unduly noisy but I am deaf so I wouldn't like to pass opinion on that.  ;D

The car they have been fitted to for approximately 15K miles :

Standard 3.2 Elite Estate suspension, 70K on the clock, poly front bushes, delaminating but no play rear w/b bushes and original rear doughnuts (poly's are still on shelf in the garage)  ::)

I'm not a racer, as such  ::) ;D , so I mainly base my opinion on stopping ability, and I'm happy on that score.  :y

My opinion is probably worth jack.  ;D

I`ve had mine fitted for about two months now on my MV6, 235/45/17 94y so I can`t comment on wear rate but I agree with what YZ250 say`s above.
Excellent grip from a standing start, difficult to break traction
Very good lateral grip, no squeals yet
Very good grip under braking, I`ve not triggered the ABS yet
They do tramline a bit but no worse than anything else I`ve had on and personally I like them.
Hope this helps.

Although these are going on the rear. So not quite so critical.

They`re not bad Chris, better than the SC2`s I had. There`s a road near by thats badly rutted in the braking area for a roundabout, heavy breaking from 60+ and it`s no worse than any other car I`ve driven on the same road.
I`d offer you a drive but you`re miles away, thats the only way you`d be able to find if they were your cup of tea or not.

4yrs,15k on my mv6 3.2. Better than conti sc2 for steering response and wear but more road noise.

I would say under heavy braking, they do provide some squeal, but usually no ABS intervention.

I have them on my car Chris. You're welcome to drive my car if you want. I can bring it round and we can have a look at my coolant leak at the same time  ;D  ;)
