3G signal oxofrdshire????
« on: 25 August 2013, 17:47:33 »

is it just my iPhone dying,  or has Orange/EE's 3G service gone tits up recently???    where i've previously had full bar 3G ,  (for example sainsbury's on the ring road),  or the top floor of our house,  i now have none....  been like that for several days.....

bit of an arse when i need to use internet banking to check funds  before putting fuel in.....   (i keep the card account i carry deliberately short on funds in case of loss or theft or fraud,   and only transfer funds in when i know i'm going to need them)

dunno max, but i guess u dont have an isp at home? If so,  i believe places like mcd's have free wifi, probably inconvenient but at least you can get on the net with your iphone  :y
Otherwise give orange a bell to see if their having probs in your area....
I guess you have turned it off and back on ? Mine seems to have connectivity problems every now and then...

Hard reset the iPhone? (press and hold top button & home button for 10 seconds or so)

That would be multiple masts out to affect that area MaxV6.

More likely the cells are getting busier, so shrink, and producing black spots

T Mobile and Orange's signal (now called EE's 3g Network, rather than then the 4g) are up and down like a Yo To around here, so I suspect there still playing around or more to the point nicking the Frequencies for the 4g as the 4g Network is growing. I used to solid signal on both T mobile and Orange, then T mobile droped to 1 bar, followed a few weeks later by my Orange signal ranging from weak to really poor.

You may find it will come back for a while as the Network Performance Monitor Team point the error of the ways of the Cell Planning Mob, but I wouldn;t hold your breath especially as theres loads of holes to fill in on the 4G Network outside of the M25.

Report it, dont bother with the Network Operator, ring EE directly (Hatfield or St Albans, cant remember now) and tell them theve got some Sites down / poor coverage in your area, you never know, around here theres loads of there Micro Lamppost Sites switched off doing nothing and have been for months, still try to work out how much there worth on eBay.  ::)

I've had decent success with the 'HomePlug' powerline networking stuff for extending WiFi (TP-Link stuff works well and I hear Devolo does too).. I'll run away now before Kevin comes to beat me with his HAM Radio stick for suggesting that ;D

Thats a repeater and uses the mains for nothing more than a pwoer source.

Using the mains for data transmission is hit and miss and very dependent on what is connected and runnign as to how well it works.

I recently upgraded my Tmibile contract with a 4g phone but kept a 3g contract, a few weeks later EE phoned me to ask how I'm getting in with my new handset and would I consider upgrading to 4g for almost free, after I declined (no 4g in Thanet yet) the guy informed me that I might experiance some 3g brown outs as they are commissioning and testing new hardware. I'm now getting random signal loss on both iPhone 4S and Samsung gs4.
