Had an interesting conversation today with Digital Satellite Warranty Cover Ltd. I'll start at the sales call 3 weeks ago...

Call Centre: Do you want it?
Me: Does it cover relocation of dish?
CC: Yes.
Me: How much?
CC: £9.95/Month or £95.99 for 15 Months.
Me: Definitely. I know it'll cost me £60ish to get the dish moved to another part of my property, which I want doing when I have finished putting my shed up, so worth the extra to cover the box! Can I pay by Direct Debit for the £95.99 option?
CC: Yes. It'll come out on the 30th and you're covered from now. Here's your Reference number!

Today SWMBO calls them as our dish has moved in the recent wind and we've got dreadful signal problems.

CC: Oh, even though your certificate says you're covered you can't have an engineer out until you've made your first monthly payment on June 6th!
SWMBO: that's not what you sold us... I'll get my husband to call.

I have shortened her call to the bear essentials, but rest assured I got it in the ear when she rang me!!  ::) ::)

So I called them and asked for the same....

CC: That's correct sir, you aren't covered until the first payment is made.
Me: That's not what the certificate of cover says and it's not how it was sold to me. Whilst we're talking about mis-selling, I was told you'd reposition the dish, which the T&C's say is excluded.
CC: That's correct sir, repositioning of the dish is chargeable.
Me: Not according to the sales call. This has been completely mis-sold and if it isn't resolved in the next hour I will be speaking to trading standards on Tuesday, as well as to my solicitor to start legal proceedings!
CC: All calls are recorded sir so if you'll just bear with me I'll speak to my manager.
Line goes quiet for a couple of minutes
CC: My manager is going to check the recordings and get back to you sir.

30 mins later the phone rings
CC: We've listened to the call and you are completely correct in what you have relayed to us sir.
Me: So what happens now.
CC: Well, we never take DD on the 30th of the month. Can you pay by card?
Me: No. The money is in an account we don't have cards for as it is just for household bills. (Slightly untrue but hey  ::))
CC: We'll get an engineer to call on Tuesday to arrange a visit and take the DD for £95.99 on the 6th June.
Me: What about the dish repositioning, as that was the biggest deciding factor for me taking this cover out.
CC: We will honour that as well, I've just put a note on the file now.
Me: Thank you.

My biggest concern is, how many people have been caught out by one of the salesmen offering the world? Luckily I'm not scared of being a little forceful with these people but there are plenty of others who wouldn't stand up like that! :-? :-?

Still, all ended up OK in the end. But be warned people, this company may claim to be the "official Sky extended warranty company" as they did to me, but they aren't. There is no such company! I don't normally bother with extended warranty's but this was a good deal when you consider the cost for re-siting the dish as I have planned.

Just thought I'd pass on the information so others are aware!!  :y :y :y

Rant over now ;D ;D ;D :y :y

I'd suggest learning about sat finders and doing it yourself.

I would, but I'm quite happy to pay someone else to go up to the roof apex and re-align it for me and reposition it, if I'm going to get the box covered too like I have!

I won in the end though... Big apology and they have had to agree to do everything I was sold! Amazing what happens when you threaten Trading Standards and Legal Action!!  ;D ;D

I'm planning on getting a sat box later in the year, a PVR from either Humax or Topfieldm just need twin cable through the house and a dish.

Mainly waiting for the PVRs to get the Freesat EPG

Isn't it amazing how quickly they listened to the tapes..... How many calls in a day would they receive?

Thank you... Bows

They definitely listened to the tape though because on the second call he asked if I had put up the shed yet because he'd get the reposition done on this visit!!
