Thermostat??
« on: 25 May 2008, 07:15:35 »

Hi guys, Now I know its not an omega,  ::) So move/delete this if necessary  :y (Just find this forum more knowlegable about engines in general) My temp gauge on my astra doesn't move at all when driving.  :'( Not even after a good 12-15 mile drive. But if i pull up at traffic lights it slowly creeps up, then when moving again it drops to nothing. Would this be the thermostat playing up/sticking??  :y  Or maybe a sensor??

The engine will be traverse mounted with the belts on the LHS.....so i suspect it will be close to the belts LHS about 1/2 way up the engine

2 water pipes going to it.........and prolly two bolts holding it in  :y

I could be completely wrong  ;D But the veccy engines are like that  :y

my 1800 cav used to do weird things like that, just changed the whole thermostat, cleaned up the plug thing going on to it,  and it seemed to do the trick, cant remember exactly, but it wasnt bustingly expensive and dead easy to do :y

Have you felt on the hoses, if they get hot? Do you get heat in the car? Does sound like the stat :)

When you stop for traffic lights, the coolant circulation slows down, and when you accelerate the coolant pump pumps faster again, thus (in your case) overcooling the engine again.
