Replacement front wiper motor, found this on ebay
« on: 02 September 2013, 18:32:10 »

Hi all,

My front wiper motor is dying I think. Sometimes it wipes the screen really slowly and then the last few days it has not been able to do one, it stops after about an inch. I will give the screen and blades a really good clean and see if theres any improvement but I think its dying.

Before I buy another one is there anything else I should check?

How easy are these motors to pull out and replace? It looks like a few bolts and then wire plug so seems ok just abit tight space wise.

I found this on ebay, does it seem like a good price?

Thanks all

Yes it is a good price. :y
As you say, undo a few bolts and the multiplug and then remove. It comes out by pulling it towards the o/s wing.Be careful you don't put a nasty dent or scratch on the wing in the process. Also, check it not the linkage which is seizing up or failing in some way rather than just the motor dying.
Btw,theres one hidden bolt up under the bottom of the windscreen, which you wont see unless you look for it. ;)

OK I will have a good look, so I am just looking for anything loose or free/flapping about just to check if its not the motor which I tink it must be.

Thanks

Serious wear in the linkage should be easy to spot.Once off the car,if you disconnect the motor from the linkage then you should be able to move the linkage and check if its really tight,or worn and sloppy. :y

I suspect the linkage not the motor. I only say that cause I made the mistake of buying a motor replacing it and finding out that it was the linkage seizing up. I would take out the motor and test it first to avoid dissapointment  :y

100% Agree with above, the spindle on the drivers side had seized on mine.... you could see a trail of rusty water had dropped off the bottom of it when you looked closely.

I do have a rusty trail of water on mine, before heading out this evening I opened the bonnet and pushed the electrical connector just incase it was loose, didnt feel loose.

Then I had a general look at the wiper mechanism, looked ok but abit rusty.

Then it worked fine about 3 mins later, just did it by itself has been fine all night so not sure what to make of it.

Can I spray a lubricant on the rusty bits to make them move easier/stop rusting?

Thanks

Hi all , heres an update.

I've been taking the trim off to gain access to the wiper motor.
I have the blades off now so the little metal cones they look like are exposed.

The motor does not move at all when i use the wipers switch.

The other day I sprayed some lubricant around the rusty area so i think thats better now but still no movement.
Also the motor part, black cylinder in very hot even with the car off for several hours and it has not been moving so I think it could be dead.

How do I remove it and test it? undo the bolts etc and then lean it on the engine, plug it in again and push the wiper switch and see if it moves?

Thanks

From memory,I would remove it complete with linkage, then remove the motor from the linkage.I could be wrong though. :-\

Remove the motor from the rest of the wiper linkage ..... the M8 nut (13mm spanner) and then plug it back into the loom & try the wipers and see what happens. If the rest of the linkage is solid, then the motor will get very hot, assuming its fuse doesn't blow and bearing in mind where it lives, there's not going to much airflow around it to cool it back down again.

Hiya,

OK I will try that.
When you say the part about the fuse, is there a fuse under the steering wheel for it? Or is it an internal fuse?

Thanks

Wow, you guys are good, really good!

Took the wiper mechanism out of the car today and the part that does the drivers side is beyond seized, it can barely move at all!

The motor seems good so I am on the look out for a replacement, so I will post on the wanted section and see if anyone can beat the ebay price I've seen.

A great big thank you to everyone who commented, I think I can get a replacement and fit it myself and then I will be very happy :)

I am scrapping T367KHL, noisy clutch thrust bearing. The car was working well last week, in fact it still runs. I rang the scrappie last Wednesday, he hasn't come yet. You can have the wiper motor and linkage complete for nothing if you care to collect, otherwise for the cost of postage.
