Huge thanks to Daz
« on: 02 September 2013, 19:22:49 »

For the work on my recently acquired 2.6 (A little project to replace my dead DTi). Absolutely top job with everything cleaned as it was re-assembled and now looking like it left the factory. I can drive the car with confidence knowing the work has been completed properly by someone I trust.

Story with this car is that I bought it very cheaply with known faults but it was the spec and colour / trim combination i'd been looking for for six months!

Daz did the following work:-

Complete top end engine stripdown and rebuild (car had been running on neat water by the previous owner due to a water leak that Daz traced to a cracked thermostat housing). Rebuild included head gaskets (due to my concerns over running on neat water), stretch bolts, oil cooler, cam seals (why do they always leak, especially from the exhaust cams?!!!) cam cover gaskets, 3.0 G cams on inlet with 3.0 sandwich plate and inlet, spark plugs, Aux belt kit, waterpump, cam belt kit, HBV and crank sensor (the last two were OK but I decided at the mileage and at least the crank sensor being original, I would play it safe) and finally a coolant flush and change

Stripdown - NB. rusty valley where coolant had leaked from cracked thermostat housing

To be prepared for the future the exhaust has had bosses welded in ready for fitting Lambda's to the revised location - no 420/430 codes but as the exhaust was coming off.....  ;)

Finally, pollybushed wishbones, Meyle HD droplinks, steering idler and Bilstein B4's all round to match the -30mm springs already fitted.

Oh and a fuel filter for good measure!

A lot of these parts I had acquired over time (genuine old stock parts being sold cheap by dealers on ebay etc - I must stop browsing eBay) and all other parts were supplied by Daz.

Engine bay now  :)

Sitting next to my 3.2, DTi reflected on rear wing!

Well, you better arrange another Oxford meet Mr Wyatt!

Still plenty of bits to do on the interior - I'm sure you can guess what head unit / screen combo will be installed! Oh and I need to get a nice ETS exhaust on it as the centre boxes are, shall we say, not refined!

But ultimately, LPG will be installed hopefully by the end of the year.  :)

Not ported due to time constraints.

Head gaskets were fine I believe, but it was one of those situations where if I hadn't got Daz to do them I would have always had it nagging in the back of my mind. With the heads off Daz was able to clean up the valley face  :)

Fully agree, nothing to lose by popping them off for a look, I'd do the same :y
