Omega + Trailer + Soil = 12mpg! ARGG!
« on: 25 May 2008, 21:15:44 »

Today, with a trailer full of soil, around 4:30 I went from one side of York to the other. I rest the mpg just after I left my street... and it was 12!  :-[

Traffic wasn't that bad either.

Unfortunatly I forgot to reset it on the way home...

Anyway, three and a bit hrs later, I did the exact same trip with trailer + soil again... Average on the way there was 16mpg ... Emptied the trailler, and the return trip was 22mpg!

Now i know soil is heavy... But they seem a bit extream to me!

Are them figures a bit low? York is very flat too... not like im driving up + down hills all the way there!

PS: If anyone wants to help me dig some more tomorrow... PM me! ;D

sounds about right for a 3.0

I got 22 average out of a 3.0 with just 'sprited' driving.

If the trailer bearings / brakes are affecting consumption they will be running hot. Feel them next time you take it for a run.

When I sometimes thing that my omega is a little thirsty (30.5 ave over mostly motorways) I only have to think of one of my mates to feel better;

He has a Mazda RX-7 which only does 13mpg on average, at best 16mpg on a run....  Right now it's sorned in his parents garage as he can't afford to run it.  Unfortunately that's probably not about to change with the current petrol prices, which is a shame as its an awesome car.

If the petrol does get as far as £2 a litre a lot of us might have to re-think things a little - Toyota Aygo anyone?
