Advice please on replacement cam belt kit ex Ebay seller
« on: 05 September 2013, 20:01:50 »

Any advice welcomed on a good supplier/manufacturer of a cam belt kit for my 2.5CDX.

The following kit is one of a few being marketed on Ebay,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190805516361?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_3276wt_1255

Would appreciate any comments or recommendations on where else to buy, or particular make/names of kits.

I see there are some posts about changing the water pump at the same time......same question, supplier/recommended manufacturer or seller of cam belt kit plus waterpump.

Ta much
George

Given the potential for a disaster if the belt or tensioners fail ... I'd stick to known, reputable suppliers like Gates or similar ... just IMHO ...

The one in the first link is SKF. I thought they were a reputable brand.  :-\

SKF Cambelt and Auxbelt kit are very good quality. Both of my V6's are running the kits.  :y

Too many unbranded kits these days and not a lot cheaper than  genuine or well known makes.....considering the damage that could occur for the sake of saving a few quid.....Surely must be false economy,,,,,as the member said previously......buy well know makes...that have been tried and tested..imo. :) :) :y

SKF are the OEM supplier of tensioners and idler rollers for the genuine GM kits.

OEM suppliers are Gates, Contitech and SKF - personally I've tended to use Contitech (choice purely on best price), and have had no issues on three V6s, two of which each had 2 kits fitted on mileage.

Yes, SKF, Gates or Contitech are all trusted and known good suppliers (they also supply Vx).

Just chose the best priced one of the above.

Only be wary of tat sold on egay. There are an awful lot of fake items for sale on there, and equally as many items that are purposely mis-sold by the ever increasing number of scumbags on that site.
