How much do you ask your kids for home hotel?
« on: 06 September 2013, 00:11:55 »

As above really, 2 boys 21 and 23 living at home, currently we ask for £40 per week, this is a figure we asked for my eldest stepson years ago, now married with his own child, what do others ask? Both are working full time at average wages, not quite sure exactly what but Master Vamps is pretty well off.........

Have you got a spare room? I'll pay you £50 a week!  ::) ::)

Seriously, I think Emily pays (her Mum) £5 per day ie £35 a week  :y

£300 a month.

rising to £400 if they earn more than their mum.

round here, that's less than the cost of a bedsit,  even before you start talking about food and laundry and parental taxi services.

£300 a month.   ....

I'm sure that my daughter would pay up if we asked that of her, but it's a balance act of pricing them out or letting them stay & save for mortgage/whatever. I'd prefer to subsidise her if she stopped at home  ::)

bottom line.....    they need to learn to budget,  and be used to paying a sensible figure,  i'm not housing them for ever....      and frankly, the way they go through my fridge , freezer, laundry stuff, and tool kits....   they damn well ought to be paying twice that.

We didn't charge anything on the understanding that what we should have charged went in an account and was saved for a deposit on thier first house. Needless to say when she did see a house she wanted me and the ex wife had to pay the deposit anyway because there was no money saved  >:(
