Electric Cable detectors
« on: 10 September 2013, 21:46:27 »

Got some lights to fit in a concrete ceiling and i know the wiring is only buried in the plaster and shielded with a plastic cover.

Some very mixed reviews out there regarding there usefulness.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-603010100-PDO-6-Detector/dp/B000W39OSY/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1378845791&sr=8-9&keywords=cable+detector

was thinking along the lines of these.

Any opinions?

As above, some work with a relative degree of accuracy and others are pure cack.

If you are going to use one, I would test it first by placing it where I know there is a live cable and seeing what the end result is.
Just remember to treat whatever it tells you as a guide rather than being gospel, and make sure you are stood on insulated steps rather than the usual metal DIY steps just in case you do find a live cable when drilling.
