House painting . . . . .
« on: 18 September 2013, 09:32:09 »

Amazing, I've been trying to find a painter for a bit of external paintwork, nothing major just some windows with peeling paint. Want to sell the house so it's just a bit of tarting up.

Everyone I talk to can't do it for 5-6 weeks, or one bloke wanted a silly amount of cash.

I thought there was a recession ?

Looks like we'll be off to B&Q to get a ladder and some paint, if there is a ladder that will handle my petit frame  ;)

Look at it this way Rog....if  they were sat on their backsides waiting for your call, they could not have been that good. Before I retired last year from painting and decorating, I had a normal waiting list of up to 3 months. As my customer base were aware of this, they always rang me well in advance. Used to get the odd few days here and there, but not often. :y

That's what we say, as we sit in a half stripped lounge thinking about finding a decorator and a plasterer...... ::) ::)

Yep. In fact, if they are even taking bookings round here, that applies. Just had a chap in to do some work here. Seemed to spend the days fending off the neighbours who were swarming round trying to book him up for next year! :o

Well to be honest, I don't care that much. I just need something done fast so I can sell my house, it just needs to look better, not done perfectly . . . . . without costing an arm & a leg. Right now if someone comes to see the house the first thing they will notice is some peeling paintwork, althought the house is generally ok, this just looks so bad.

You won't get a decent painter and decorator to do outside work now as they know there are not enough daylight hours for gloss paint to have dried enough in the cold temperatures before damp descends and you have a dull rather than gloss finish.  ???

Unfortunately, you have left it too late in the year.  :-[

There are quick-dry gloss paints available from almost anywhere. They are water-based and dry in 30 mins. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to get a good finish as it dries rather more quickly than that in certain conditions and is difficult to work with.
Handy for covering where bare wood has been exposed though.

Well, I really hope not. I can't wait till next spring, the house I want to buy will probably have gone by then   :(  . . . . . and we really want it

Look like a trip to B&Q for a ladder and some paint  . . . . for the Mrs then  ;D

Just whack it on Rog!  :y

If anyone mentions the lack of glossiness, tell them it's the latest satin liquid veneer system from Germany and don't mention you bought it in Lidl!!  ;)  ;D

Well that's just it. This is an outside window quite high up, nobody is going to inspect it. But they will certainly notice of all the paint is peeling off

Anyway, went to B&Q, looked at ladders. Chose a good one with a decent weight limit, some of the cheap ones are only suitable for sparrows. Ticket price £150, at check out £99 ! Wrong info in system, no complaints  :y So tomorrow, PAINT TIME !

Pro Quote £850 ish

DIY. 5.3 mtr ladder £99, paint and bits about £30. Plus as I have to hold the bottom of the ladder I get to stare at SWMBOs bum for a long time  ::)    8)

Now, who want to buy a house ? . . . . . . .  ;D
