I wonder how many people are aware of......
« on: 18 September 2013, 13:35:19 »

.......how long their cars have been manufactured before they're registered?

Thanks to ' The Jimbob Detective Agency' I've discovered that my MV6 was more than 18 months old before it was actually registered.

I reckon that most of the general public believe that their NEW CAR has literally rolled off the production line only minutes before they take ownership.

Fleet cars are likely to be standing around in muddy fields for longest, I imagine. :-\

The only way to guarantee a freshly built car is to raid the options list...heated rear seats, xenons, privacy glass, dual/tri or quad zone climate instead of aircon/simple climate and a sunroof.

Trouble is that that means paying near enough list price for the car, whereas a muddy field pre registered stock car could be a third cheaper :-\

It seems that everything was an option on the R Class. Everyone I looked at was different in some way from the last. Whether it be satnav/Command, Airmatic, 'leather', varying rims, panoramic or normal sunroofs, electric tailgates, memories on seats & column, heated seats

Wheels and body kits can be swapped at a dealer (or elsewhere), but you only need to carry out a search on any approved used site, filtering with your individual options to finish up with a short list of one or two cars, and even then there's probably a compromise to be had :-\

Not the case most of the time, many of the waiting times are artificial (e.g. marketing) for the run of the mill models as reflected by the thousands of BMW's stored at Bruntingthorpe.

My Mum and Dad had a "New" Ford made before one of the long strikes. It was rusty the day they took delivery. It also had about 100 loose self tappers under the back seat. We discovered them and a few other horrors while we were fitting an Eflow (?) sound deadening kit. Remember those?

I'll wager that my brand spanking new (18 month old) Omega was heavily discounted in an effort to finally get rid of it. :y ;D ;D

BMW's tend to come with a production date sticker either under the engine bay somewhere or on the door pillar. So at the minute I've got a July 2003 produced M3 which was registered on 29/12/2003, and four 61 plate 5 Series, 3 produced June 2011 registered in September, and one built August 2011 registered in November 2011. I did recently have a 330ci however built in July 2004 registered in May 2005.
