My son sold his Porsche today as baby due in January and they need to reorganise their vehicles to more practical approach. He has 14 days to find another car or Insurer will cancel his insurance. If he has gap in car ownership are there any ramifications for his NCB and discounts? He was hoping to just borrow one of mine or another family member where he is named on insurance to avoid making rushed decision.

I think the industry accepts a 3-6 month gap quite happily, possibly more but you have to check with each one as to their policy.

I recently used the no claims bonus from a policy that expired 18months ago with no problem,  I was told that most insurance companies will honour no claims bonus up to 2 years from the expiry date of the previous policy - I did have to write a letter explaining the gap in dates though.  In my case I sold my Ford Explorer the old policy was on and just let it expire - got them to give me proof of no claims at the time, then used that proof of no claims when I purchased a new policy for my new (to me) Range Rover.
