Even four 19" tyres are cheaper than the transfer box ::)

Have just read this...

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/technology/transmissions-and-drivetrains/4motion

Which confirmed my suspicions... the system default is to only send 10% of the drive to the rear axle, so in every day driving, the rear tyres are simply keeping the back end up off the road, hence the (lack of) rear tyre wear :y

It is slightly different if you go down article to this:

"On the Phaeton, under normal conditions, the Torsen differential shares driving forces equally across front and rear axles. If it detects wheel slip, it instantly diverts as much as 20 per cent of the driving power to the axle with the better traction (max. 70:30, or 30:70). Its locking effect increases automatically along with the load. In contrast to a "speed sensing" viscous lock, it operates in "torque sensing" mode. The advantage is the lack of torsional stress when cornering, as it is designed to allow the differential rotational speeds the car automatically wants to use."

Good overview though - not read before

I totally agree that the omega can be a pain and ive often thought about letting her go. however, mines been parked up for just over a month and with a little luck she'll be running again over next couple of weeks.

I've missed her so much  :'( :'( :'(

just thought i'd pass on my thoughts to consider before you think about getting rid mate  :y :y :y
