Is that the other end of the pin/shaft which failed on mine :-\

Correct. And the same fault on the one that replaced the one we fitted instead. As you found, if that riveted shaft becomes loose enough, the door will not unlock. Making repair awkward to say the least.

Bollards! Thought the re riveting had fixed the refusal to unlock from inside. Wrong! :(
