Although I think a few people are maybe turning up because it's there. Why pay for food when you can get it for nowt ?

I'm sure a lot of people have a genuine need for these -  and on the other hand I think a lot of people use them so they have more money for cigarettes and alcohol instead

So many of the programs lately show people saying they have no money and have 40" TV's - x-box's etc and say they have no money

Plus greater awareness of thier presence......who had even heard of them 12 months ago.

One reason we hear much more about them now is that many of them are run and promoted by a "charity" named The Trussel Trust.
It has connections to lobbying companies and its chairman is a member of the Labour party. That could be why its being used by the Beeb and other left wing media outlets as a stick to beat the Tories with.
The aforementioned chairman of the trust which runs the foodbank has been paid (along with his wife) over £150,000 in salaries and expenses by the trust.He also set up a private company which has also been paid tens of thousands of pounds by the trust.
Apparenly the trust doesn't publish its accounts.
When they set up a food bank at a church,the church donates £1500 to the trust.
Below is a link to an article I found hilarious.It was written by a lefty accusing the Tories and their chums of running a scam and making money from food banks. This was all based on the assumption that Chris Mould (the aforementioned chairman of the Trussel trust)was a Tory.It then transpired that he was a card carrying member of the Labour party.

Apparently the Job Centre tell their layabouts clients about them and how to benefit from them.

I personally think that some checks should be done about peoples habits and if they smoke, drink or have a big TV then they don't benefit from them.

Anyone just cant turn up , you need to be assessed for approval and from what i read they are quite strict on who gets what . So its not a case of anyone turning up , low income families desperate to feed their families

They definitely seem to be a necessary evil these days,however I find it a sad indictment of the state of affairs that this should be so.

I saw a bit on TV news, poor bastard bloke was explaining how it was helping him, whilst drinking a nice expensive Costa coffee. And a large one at that

Of course, the film crew make have purchased that for him prior to interview

We have stocks in work for service users in need of a hand, I struggled with it at first but there are some cases where the money runs dry and their kids would go hungry and a bag of simple groceries makes a big difference, the stuff we get delivered is usually near it's use by date or is under weight e.g. a 700g pack of cereal that only has 699g in it, rather than bin it Kellogs will give it away. Granted there are some p*sstakers but we generally weed them out.

That's the truth of the matter...... I can approve their access to people, have been able to for years.  I have also been known to take a person to get food / electric etc rather than give out cash.  We used to be able to give out an 'Order' to a family who could go and buy items from a local supermarket, but only food, clothes baby essentials etc, worked fine but apparently that is not the way to do it these days, its demeaning......
