The problem with comparing prices is trying to find out what tariff you're currently on. The comparison sites list about 100 tariffs for my current supplier, for gas alone, and about as many more for leccy. None of them match the one printed on my bill.

You also have to enter your gas consumption in kWh. How daft is that when I log my consumption based on meter readings in m3::)

I think they all show the conversion into kwH on bill - well at least Southern Electric do. On line accounts definitely do.

yip thats right they do. BUT they charge for exactly what you use in Kw on your electric, ie. 200kw you get charged per Kw. which is about 3 times more than gas. But the Con is in the gas.
most modern gas meter are metric cubic metres, easy enough to convert into Kw s, but if you actually worked out the conversion to Kw,which 1/3 third the price of Electric, you will see your gas does nt cost a whole lot of £££ S. So they have this statment in their bills which says..
When a Cubic meter of Gas is Burnt it does nt always produce the same amount of energy so we convert Kw s into Units. How convenient for them >:(

Not going to comment on BG price increase but on the subject of ripping of decent folk. My uncles boiler has seen better days and has decided to play up. Now dear uncle is in his 70s and lives alone and his first thought is to ring the so called people in the know them being British Gas. Engineer comes out for an arranged fee i and tells him you appliance sir is old and needs renewing. OK says uncle how much  £3000 pound sir fitted including warranty. Well you can imagine my response once he told me nearly died on the spot rip of bar stewards.
Well tonight been on the net got prices for a Worcester boiler approved by Witch and only £570 + vat. Ok need some one to fit it but £3000 i dont think so.

So, what this amounts is that they are all a bunch of thieving conmen not just BG.

Competition is supposed to "healthy" and provide better "value for customers". Seems to me the competition is to see who holds out longest before jumping on the bandwagon and squeezing us till the pips squeek.

Now where are my woolly jumpers and thermal underwear ? Actually I've just had an idea, I'll dig out my old one piece ski suit  - and live in it  ;)
