Hi guys,

Car: 2006 Ford Fusion 1.6L Duratec DOHC.

This car has DBW and doesn't have an idle control valve. Am I correct in thinking that on these ''electric throttle bodies'' that if I pull it out of the car there will be a stepper motor incorporated in the assembly that controls the idle?

If so i'm presuming they get gummed up like the ICVs do. can I take it out and clean it. or is it new throttle body assembly time?

There is no separate idle control with DBW normally. Idle is controlled by the main throttle. No harm in giving that a clean every so often, though.

There also not always stepper motors....

......ask a Volvo owner, they used a rather naff bogo electric motor with gearbox and they bunt out the comms in the position they were stalled at when idling!

Ok thanks boys. So basically cleaning the throttle butterfly is my only option or replacing with brand new....

Or you could trade it in and buy a fleet of omegas

How did you determine the throttle is at fault?

Not saying that you are wrong but.... what are the symptoms? have you read the codes? have you got any way of reading live values?

do fuel filter and put some redex in it-should sort it out-worked for me on f*****s ---horrible POS - was like driving a bean can---still might be biased--cos it aint a miggy
