As Im about to undertake/attempt Thermo change, I would like to know why its so called.
Is it a Bugger to get at..
Is it a Bugger to remove..
Is it an even bigger Bugger to put back..

So far only managed to practise removing the Plenum, should be fun

It goes through holes in 3 metal retainer plates (dip stick tube, water transfer pipe, engine lifting bracket), it goes into a threaded hole in the block that is at 27 degrees from the horizontal and it is slightly awkward to reach.

Because of the odd angle it is very difficult to force yourself to hold it at the right correct angle to get the thread started. All 3 metal plates need to line up with the hole in the block before it will go in and you can't actually see it so the process is all done by touch. I find swearing helps

Best to follow Loo-Knee's video in the guides, i.e. loosen the housing from the transfer pipe by waggling it before loosening the B bolt. TBH, I don't know what the fuss is about. Yes, it's a bit awkward to get to, but it's far from impossible, and easier than a lot of jobs on the Omega (i.e. 3.0/2.5 coil packs, ABS ECU, rear coolant pipe, etc) IMHO.

An 8mm ratchet spanner makes removal a piece of cake.

Refitting, well, I always struggle, due to lining all the stuff up

Re fitting... Use a smaller item than the bolt, like a 4/5mm drill bit or a short scriber type object, to put through each item and into the block, just to get it all lined up.

Then hold all the brackets still, remove the drill bit/scriber or whatever, then put the bolt in.

The B bolt is easy to come out, a PITA to get back in. thank god martin did mine.... after I reinstalled the dipstick tube in nano seconds

Just to make life more interesting, the DBW engines have two. One for the dipstick and one for the engine lifting bracket/ water transfer pipe. Oh, and another little bracket between the transfer pipe and the dipstick tube.
Just have to ram your hand down there and get on with it. 

I kept dropping both the bracket and the bolt when I did mine so I tied a bit of cotton just under the head of the bolt as a precaution. When the thread had started, I just snapped the cotton. Worked a treat.
