I was going to look at this today but Spent too long pissing about with self levelling pumps before rain stopped play.


Causes?


Must admit I thought it was the front discs, as it started when I fitted ebc front discs. But there's no clue through the steering, and the mot guy says its defo near side rear.

Sounds like discs ...

Bit of a ball-ache maybe, try swopping 'em side-to-side and re-test perhaps?
Give the pad/caliper recesses a thorough clean too ...

Long shot ... air in system ... ?

Any sign of the TC light

Might be worth pulling the disc off and checking with a straight edge.... how old are the discs

When I changed my back pads the pads were stuck to the caliper  maybe you have the same problem try to  take the pads out to check

Feels like an out of round or an out of true disc. Makes your head nod just as the car pulls up.

Not yet. If the rain holds off I may be able to get at it and check.

Could be warped, or badly mounted, or badly made.

Or something else..? Hand brakes a bit high so I don't think that's binding.

Actually ignore the hand brake thing, that would cause a constant judder.

Do you have or have access to a DTI? Not wanting to teach Granny etc etc but you'd need to bolt the discs back on without the wheel to do the test though.

TB if it was the wheel, wouldn't it vibrate at speed...? And all the time? Not just when braking?

Are we talking measuring any run out with a gauge?

If so I sort of have a plan for that.

It can often be balanced out by a good fitter, so only shows up a very low speed. Had similar on a crappy old Nova I had, where the (steel) wheel was buckled, but round. Slowing from walking pace to stop, felt like the brake disc wasn't of a consistent thickness (what we often incorrectly call warped).

For time it takes to whack on another pair of wheels - even if its just the 2 spares out of your 2 Omegas just to test around teh block

IIRC you drive yours every day so unlikely to be caused by rusting of the discs.

Following on from TBs suggestion - if it is an out of true wheel it may be that it is only noticeable at walking pace. When starting off you have other things to hold your attention which isn't the case as you slow to a stop,

Can you feel it if you try driving at 2-3mph?

Has this happened since replacing tyres? Just thinking aloud if such a low profile (40s on your arse?) would be rigid enough that tyre imperfections could cause it to act like a buckled wheel?

Either way, a simple test to pop some other wheels on.
